 AR~STRA BARN
(SOUTH OF PORTOLA VALLEY, NEAR PALO ALTO BORDER: OFF ALPINE
 AND ARASTRADERO ROADS)
North on Laurel (towards San Francisco) to Ravenswood--left onto Ravenswood.
Get in right lane and cross El Camino. Continue on this street (which is now Menlo Avenue)
until it deadends at University---turn right onto University, and then make a left onto Santa
Cruz Avenue. Continue on Santa Cruz---Santa Cruz will veer to the left at a stop sign after
a mile or so, and, at a signal light shortly thereafter, Santa Cruz again veers toward the left.
The next signal light/intersection is Sand Hil] Road---go through this intersection, but get in
the right lane, so that you can follow the signs to Portola Valley. Stay in the right lane, and
it becomes Alpine Road, going towards Portola Valley (see map). Continue on Alpine past
Ladera, then take the first available left turn--there is a left-tum lane. If you go past the
Alpine Inn (formerly Rossotti's, I believe), you've gone too far. Take the 4th right turn,
which a narrow road marked with a yellow "15 mph" sign. The first right turn is to the
Alpine Inn, the second is a narrow road, the third is a driveway leading to a private house---
take the 4th right turnl Conintue on this road---it will turn into an unpaved, gravel road,
which has a sign on the left saying, "HORSE BARN' STRAIGHT AHEAD"---this is your
target, so continue until the road ends in a parking area in front of a horse barn, which will
be slightly to your left as you drive up. Park away- from the barn, on the south side of the
 parking area.
The target is the exterior of the wooden barn, plus the small fenced enclosures for
horses on the east side (attached to the barn) and the area with a number of trees on the
 west side.
Walk all around the barn, and the area with the horse enclosures and the area with the
trees. Note the design of the barn, its condition, and what it is made of. What are the
dominant patterns? Then stand off to the side of the main entrance, near the office (with
the tubs of plants). Make friends with any resident felines (unless you are allergic); visit with
a nearby horse (if so inclined)--enjoy the open air and the viewsl
