Open AI Summary

The documents summarize the chronology of human use testing within the Army's GRILL FLAME program. On September 26, 1978, the project was canceled due to issues with classified clearance. However, on March 26, 1979, the Surgeon General's Human Use Sub-Committee declared GRILL FLAME to have no risk of human use, allowing for the project to be restarted. In January 1980, the Surgeon General recognized that existing protocols constituted research involving human subjects. The Army General Counsel recommended that the GRILL FLAME program be supervised and coordinated with a yearly review by the Secretary of the Army. Additionally, in 1981, the Army's participation in a joint program was approved. In 1983, the Secretary of the Army approved Army participation in the CENTER LANE program.
