 MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: DIA Sponsored Briefing (14 April 1983)(U)
 1. (U) On 7 April 1983, at 1520 hours, I was called by Dr Jack
Vorona, DoD Project GRILL FLAME Project Manager. He was
notifying me that a briefing had been scheduled for the Senator
(Sen Wallop, SSCI Budget committee) on 14 April 1983, from 1000
 - 1130 hours in Dr DeLaurer's office (Under Secretary of
Defense, Research and Engineering). Dr Vorona requested I
present a 25-30 minute briefing, and suggested the following as
 topics to be covered:
 a. Why Army was interested in this area.
 b. Explain the selection and training of personnel.
 c. Present examples of projects that we had worked on.
 2. (S/NOFORN) Dr Vorona also stated that personnel from the
West Coast (SRI) would be in attendance and he was asking Mr
Jake Stewart (Capt, USN), to provide information on the use of
GRILL FLAME information in his previous assignment on the NSC,
He further intended to ask F- I to attend and
describe his agencies interest in the subject matter.
 3. (U) Dr Vorona requested a "dry run" on 11 April 1983. I
told him that due to operational commitments that date was
impossible. The "dry run" is now scheduled for 12 April 1983,
at 1430 hours, at his office. Dr Vorona indicated he was hoping
to have all the people there to coordinate the briefings.
 4. (U) In response to my question if DA (ACSI) had been
notified, he stated he had tried to contact BG Soyster but had
been unsuccessful. I stated that contact with DA was required
to allow formal authorization for me to brief. He stated he
 would contact DA.
 5. (U) I notified Col MIller of the above at 1540 hours, 7
 April 1983.
