SUBJECT: Status Update for OACSI, 12 Dec 79 (U)
1. (U) On 11 Dec 79, MAJ Stoner, OACSI, requested I provide him with
a status report concerning our involvement in the Iranian situation as
he had been tasked by the ACSI to brief him on the situation.
2. (C/NOFORN) At 1345 hrs, 12 Dec 79, I left the following input on
MAJ Stoner's desk (he was unavailable) after briefing COL Capps about
the input and getting his approval to leave the data:
'1. We have been involved in the IRANIAN hostage situation since
23 Nov 79. So far we have provided JCS (LTC Lenahan) 17 reports
covering 18 sessions. We have conducted a total (as of today) of 24
sessions. Thus, we still have 6 reports awaiting typing.
'2. The following "evaluation" data comes from LTC Lenahan and is strictly
subjective on his part. Using the following categories, this is how
he evaluates the individual sessions:
NO VALUE
- 1
LITTLE VALUE
- 4
FAIR VALUE
- 6
GOOD VALUE
- 7
TOTAL
18
(Remember, he graded the sessions not the
reports)
'3. Other statements that he made (and I quote)
"14 of 17" reports provided some sort of value"
"collectively your reports have been extremely valuable"
'4. We have been provided the following background data:
a. Some pictures of the hostages (as you are aware)
b. Overhead pictures (9 & 28 Nov) no recent stuff
