 MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
 SUBJECT: SRI Trip Report (U)
 1. (S) From 20-25 Aug 79, the undersigned visited SRI
International, Menlo Park CA, to monitor contract action
on the Grill Flame program and to exchange technical informa-
 tion of interest.
 a. On 20 Aug 79, the morning consisted of general
discussions of the training sessions to be conducted during
the two-week training cycle. The sessions will include, but
not be limited to, the following areas: Remote Viewing (RV)
of photographs (projected 35mm slides), RV of areas designated
by map coordinates, RV of random noise electronic devices to
provide the viewer with real time feedback of his RV ability,
and appropriate RV exercises to enhance a viewer's particular
area of demonstrated ability. During the afternoon, the
SG1I undersigned provided SRI personnel with a briefing on the
progress of the INSCOM Grill Flame program. Also in attendance SG1I
at this briefing was of the CIA. was
the interviewer for Mr. Pat Price when Mr. Price was doing RV
work for the CIA in 1975. That evening the undersigned had
SGlldinner with During dinner he related many of his
personal experiences with Mr. Price. At the present time Mr.

SG1A b. On 21 Aug 79, a RV session was conducted in support

roblem mentioned in subparagraph b above at the request of
of this RV session are available through Air Force Grill
Flame channels and can be requested by INSCOM Grill Flame
 personnel if necessary.
The afternoon consisted of RV work with random noise
electronic devices (successful in that the device was perturbed
during the RV) and a two-hour discussion of RV practices with
Hella Hammid, a well known RVer who works with the SRI personnel.
 c. On 22 Aug 79, SRI personnel conducted a discussion
of the judging of previous "beacon" type RV sessions. After
this discussion, the rest of the day was used to do RV of random
noise electronic devices (successful) and photographs. For the
first RV session of photographs, the RVer was asked to pick out
the photograph he perceived from a "pool" of four photographs.
The RVer was able to do this. This procedure was not continued
because it was not considered beneficial to have the RVer
anticipating left hemispheric analysis of his own RV images.
 d. On 23 Aug 79, INSCOM personnel were asked to not
come to SRI in the morning because Mr. Gale of the DOD Grill
Flame "Gale Committee" was to be there and SRI personnel would
be occupied with him. SRI personnel reported later that their
meeting with Mr. Gale went well. Apparently they discussed
statistical judging of RV sessions. During the afternoon hours
another RV session was conducted against the "real world"
of this RV session were significan
 personnel. Results
Another RV session of a photograph was conducted
 later in the afternoon (successful).
 e. On 24 Aug 79, the morning consisted of RV work with
random noise electronic devices (unsuccessful) and in the
afternoon another RV session of a photograph was conducted (very
 scucessful).
 2. (S) The initial report on Phase One of the training at
SRI is due to be published by the middle of September 1979.
At the request of the undersigned, SRI personnel provided the

 3. (S) The time spent at SRI was very beneficial to the
undersigned. The face-to-face exchange of information in
this highly technical field cannot be replaced. I strongly
recommend continued trips to SRI by INSCOM Grill Flame
personnel. The two-week training program organized by the
SRI personnel meets the terms of the contract.
