 DATA SUMMARIES
(S/NF/SG/LIMDIS) Following are perceived highlights from
each source. The period covered is 26-28 October 1993.
 - (S/NF/SG/LIMDIS) Source A:
-- There will be no attacks wherein U.S. Forces are
killed in Somalia for the foreseeable future. Decisions will be
made for peace eventually through negotiations. U.S. fighting in
Somalia will not be escalated. There will be a promise of peace
 by political negotiations.
 (S/NF/SG/LIMDIS) Source B:
--- No attacks of American assets by Somalia forces will
occur in the near future. The U.S. commanders intent is to lie
low and allow the two major clans to "fight it out" for a while.
-- A small unit of U.N. troops will inadvertently stumble
into an unmarked portion of the "green line" and will be trapped
in a fire fight between two large opposing groups.
 - (S/NF/SG/LIMDIS) Source C:
 - Snipers are currently taking "pot shots" at U.S.
military personnel and installations in Somalia. This will
continue until U.S. or United Nations envoys go to Somalia and
have political talks among rival clans which will occur in the
 near future.
?-- The American presence in Somalia will continue to be
one of a military training exercise until peace can come to that
 area.
?-- The fighting that is going on in Somalia is between
 rival clans of that country.

 E. SESSION SUMMARY:
Five American soldiers/POW's are currently being held in the
building so located on the acetate and sketched in the accompanying
 diagrams.
The Americans are located on an upper floor of the building in
a series of 3 rooms. This building (or one close by) is associated
with grinding and there is a strong, sweet smell reminiscent of
fruit. It has a plain, stucco front with prominent dark colored
 timbers or wooden beams.
There is the concept that the vicinity of this building is "a
city within a city". There is a nearby building which has a
"museum" feeling about it. There are a number of cultural items
i.e. artifacts and this building has complex designs on the walls.
The Americans have been moved around in large, cargo-type
trucks. There is an overwhelming expression of torture, mistreat-
ment and injuries that are very apparent. Feeling that one has
recently died and is covered with a heavy, off-white cloth. There
is a large box/chest type object near this individual. Does not
feel as if this individual is with the others.
There is a small faction within the hierarchy which wants to
lead the Americans to safety. Two of these individuals are
involved with guarding the Americans in the building.
