Summary:
This document, dated August 13, 1993, is a mail listing regarding the Stargate program. The author confirms a conversation they had with a source in OSD/LL, who informed them that Dr. Anita Jones opposes the Stargate program. Dr. Jones is seeking information on which Senators are supporting the program, in order to determine the likelihood of ending it. The author provided limited information about the senators involved, but believes that there is strong support from some major Senators which would make it difficult to change their minds. The author suggests that further information should be sought from contacts within DDR&E to understand why the program suddenly has high-level interest. The author concludes by mentioning that they will keep the recipient informed and can discuss the matter further at the upcoming KC meeting.

Mr Berbrich? This confirms an earlier discussion I had with
A source in OSD/LL indicates that Dr. Anita Jones is very much opposed to
the star gate program, and is seeking information on which Senators are
involved in supporting the program - in order to assess the prospects for
killing it. I provided only sketchy information about the various players,
but we are in a situation where we have to be at least somewhat
cooperative. I did pass along that I felt there was significant and strong
support from some major Senators, and that I felt it would be difficult to
change their minds about the program. I also indicated that this is not a
large program - either in dollars or in personnel - for DIA.
I don't know if there is anything we should do from an LL perspective at
this point, but I thought you needed to know the lay of the land - and that
perhaps you might want to talk to any contacts you might have within DDR&E
to get a better guage on why the program is suddenly of such interest at
this high level. SG1J
I will keep informed of any developments on this end - and we
can talk tomorrow at KC meeting if you like.
