 Publication Explanation
 1. This collection of papers, for the most part, consists of
recent research papers and/or summaries of recent research papers
from the Chinese Academy of Somatic Science and the Chinese
Research Center for Somatic Science. However, it also includes a
small number of papers by our academy's (and center's) researchers
 from several years back.
 2. Except for those marked with an asterisk (*), the authors
 of this collection are all researchers appointed to this academy;
for the sake of brevity, this will not be referred to again in the
 text.
 3. Due to the haste in getting this into print, it was
difficult to avoid some errors in this collection; it is hoped that
the reader will critique and correct.

 Foreword
The Chinese Academy of Somatic Science and the Chinese
Research Center for Somatic Science have been in existence for some
two years. They are charged with providing the mechanism for
research in somatic science. At present, aside from the academy,
its three subordinate centers and five research offices carry the
load that includes the national natural sciences' funding of the
many national, provincial and municipal level research subjects.
Beginning with 1991, with hard work on the part of many areas, a
research foundation for the Chinese Academy of Somatic Science and
the Chinese Research Center for Somatic Science was also
established. Under the sponsorship of the Academic Committee of
the "Somatic Academy" and "Somatic Center," 32 funded subjects have
now been approved, its contents involve research into "functional
states," physical and chemical effects of extraordinary human body
functions, biomedical scientific research into the effects of
extraordinary human body functions basic theory extraordinary human
body functions, extraordinary consciousness and sensitivity,
extraordinary motivations and traditional Chinese medicine systemic
theory, etc. At present, part of the subjects have achieved initial
results, presented to everyone as a gift through the Chinese
 Somatic Society's Board of Directors.
The Chinese Academy of Somatic Science and the Chinese
Research Center for Somatic Science form a common research
structure for all scholars in somatic science. We wish to develop
continually the interchange of domestic and foreign academics, and

welcome those scholars who are in somatic science to come to our
academy (center) and take on research topics.
Developing somatic science and revealing life's secrets
are our common enterprise. Raising the level of mankind's health
and intelligence and increasing productivity are our common
ambition. Let us join hands and till this hard piece of soil to get
 its rich fruits.
We hope that his collection of papers will be enlightening for
